Mr Lima
Enjoying the snow in Perisher

As you may already know, my name is Mr. Lima and I am the lucky duck that has 6 Green this year at
St. Felix Primary School. I am extremely happy to be teaching such an amazing group of students alongside the very fantastic Mrs Elchaar.

Why I decided to become a teacher:

I decided to become a teacher only four years ago when I realised that my calling was to help children learn and grow into responsible members of society. While I have been teaching at St. Felix since March 2013. This year will mark my third year with my very own class and I couldn't be happier to be with year 6 again. I have coached children in soccer for over 10 years and have taught in regional Australia for a little while.

A Little Bit About Me
I am 32 years old and have one brother who is two years older than me. His name is Cris. I was born in Brazil and moved here when I was just five years of age. I originally moved to Brisbane and in year 1 could not speak a word of English. I still speak Portuguese fluently with my parents. My mum was a maths teacher in Brazil and my dad is an electrical engineer. I love playing and coaching soccer and actually played professionally for a few years. I also enjoy wakeboarding, snowboarding, playing tennis and ping pong, travelling and spending time with my family. I really enjoy watching documentaries about space and how the mind works.
I love New York City

What I Want From My Students
First and foremost, I want them to respect one another, me and their peers. To me, having respect and working hard is as important as academics. In saying that, I expect that all my students work hard in all their tasks. I understand that some of you are going to better at maths than sports or better at drawing. That's fine with me so long as you work hard to get better. Basically, if you try your hardest and show respect, you and I will have no problems. In fact, I believe if you do these two things we will get a long very very well :)

My teaching philosophy is...
I believe in allowing students to work together in teams and being able to present their work using technology. I believe in allowing students to be creative and to allow them to be critical thinkers. I am very passionate about teaching students to ask "why" they are learning anything at school. I believe the learning done at school needs to be relevant to the work done in the real world and to show students this connection.

Who I Look Up To and Admire
I admire people like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandi who believed in using non violence to get what they want. I admire them because they were forgiving people who fought for what they believed in without ever having to raise their fists. I also admire people like Mother Teresa and Mary MacKillop who helped people who were in need. In a sporting sense, I admire David Beckham, Messi and Roger Federer because they always put in 100%, are humble, professional and genuinely good people.

Some facts you may not know about Mr. Lima:
- I lived in the USA for four years from the ages of 19-23 on a soccer scholarship
- I was school captain of my high school, Westfields Sports High School
- I love theme parks and horse riding
- I have gone sky diving two times (and yes it was very scary)
- I have always had dogs growing up. They have always been small and indoor dogs
