Prayer

Church

The Feast of the Ascension celebrates Jesus rising to Heaven.
Cannonisation refers to a holy person becoming a saint.
The leader of a diocese is a BISHOP.
The leader of the whole Catholic Church throughout the world is the Pope - Pope Francis.
Caritas organise Project Compassion for poor people around the world.
The first Catholic Community did not have a priest because they were not allowed to have one.
There are many titles for Mary - Queen of Peace. Mary Help of Christians. Mary the Mother of Jesus.

Liturgical Year

Advent is when we prepare for Christmas. We use a purple cloth.
At Pentecost, the disciples received the Holy Spirit - the colour associated with this is Red.
All Saints Day is on 1 November.
All Souls Day is on 2nd November.
Green is the colour of Ordinary Time - GO
Purple is the colour of Advent and Lent - LA
Red is the colour of Pentecost.
White is the Colour of Easter and Christmas.
During Lent we prepare for Jesus’ Death.
During Advent we prepare for Jesus’ Birth.
Advent is the beginning of the Church Year.

Beliefs

The Nicene Creed and the Apostles Creed is when we proclaim our beliefs. I believe…
The ‘Communion of Saints” refers to faithful people on earth, in purgatory and in heaven.
We use the Catholic Social Teachings to guide our morals and decision making.
A steward of Creation means looking after the environment. Saving water, planting trees.

Sacraments

The priest kisses things to honour or venerate them.
In the Mass, the Responsorial Psalm is sung or said during the Liturgy of the Word.
Penance - The sacrament where we are reconciled is Penance - also known as Reconciliation.
During the homily, the priest explains the scripture readings.
At the sign of the peace, the priest says, “The peace of the Lord be with you” and we say ‘AND ALSO WITH YOUR SPIRIT.’
We light the PASCHAL CANDLE during the Easter Vigil.
The priest says “The Lord be with you.” and you say “AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT”
The consecration is when the priest through the Holy Spirit, turns the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.
The symbols in the bible of Confirmation/Pentecost is wind and fire.

Scripture
